Magner Mendes

Since Magner has always been interested in martial arts, taking up judo classes when he had the opportunity at school was only logical. This enthusiastic judoka currently fights in the weight category -73kg.

Magner combines his judo trainings with his work in Tarrafal, but still finds the time to pass his passion for judo on to the next generation, by teaching judo there.

When you ask him about his favorite judo moments, he’ll probably refer to his 3rd place in the African Open of Dakar 2017 or to the creation of the Regional Judo Association Santiago Norte, and two (!) judo schools. It is inspiring to see him work with the young judoka there, which he describes as very promising children.

The world championships in Tokyo won’t be anything new for him, since he qualified in the past to go to the World Championships in Paris (2011) and Baku (2018), so his opponents better watch out. When he’s not in the dojo you can find him at the gym for a work-out in the water, swimming or hanging around with his family and friends. Cause even though he’s a busy guy, he will always find time for them!
